Our Review:

JustGuys.net is a modest little site; a little plain, but refreshingly uncluttered by tabs, menus and other features crammed onto the homepage. It's a great place to look for chance encounters with other gay guys or something a little more committed. So how does it compare with the other sites in this category?

You'll find over 600,000 profiles on the site, though do bear in mind that a good proportion of these will be fake or obsolete. Nonetheless, at the time of this review there were 10,516 members registered in the New York City area. Members tend to be younger, so not too many bears or matures to choose from. Many profiles lack photos too. You can browse summary profiles with basic demographics and brief bio. It's a good way of sorting the wheat from the chaff and you can contact members at the click of your mouse this way. The full profiles are briefer than on other sites and where there are photos these are sometimes not very large or of particularly good quality. On a member profile you'll note a range of buttons to help get in contact with that member. You can email, request IM so you can chat in real time or wink (just to break the ice-you can include a custom message if you've upgraded). In addition, it's also possible to comment on member profiles, add them to your 'hotlist', and add them to your friend list (you need to request the other member to confirm this). 

There are a number of search options available for you to use whilst browsing. The quick search option (accessible from the homepage) enables you to find members by a narrow range of criteria (state/region/location) and allows you to filter out profiles without photos. Unfortunately there's no way of filtering out profiles by last login date (to screen out lapsed or fake profiles). The detailed search option lets you search by location, distance from your location, age and also allows you to filter results by members online only, with photos, their ethnic status, what they're looking for (e.g. relationship or fling), sexual preferences and HIV status. As search tools go, what you get here doesn't really impress that much. 

In terms of other features, you can also connect with others by joining a group (2190 members have joined a group); again, these aren't really buzzing and despite the range of groups (e.g. lifestyle, politics, entertainment, hobbies) there's little to keep you hooked. You can also get webcam chat if you upgrade. Again, the webcam chat rooms are fairly quiet in comparison to a lot of other gay dating sites. You might also find the other features useful in terms of keeping up to speed with news and events, such as the classifieds section and gay news column. 

Free members can create a profile, upload pictures, view other profiles, receive emails, create a favorites list and use the quick search. However, you can only initiate contact by winking. Upgraded members get unlimited email access, unlimited photo access, all search tools, track those who've visited your profile, webcam chat and priority customer support. However, whilst the upgrade fees are great value, your money would be best spent elsewhere if you want to get out there and meet guys. Finally, there's a FAQs section on the site and an email web form for assistance. As mentioned above, if you do subscribe you get priority assistance.

JustGuys.net is cheap and cheerful, but ultimately fails to deliver the goods when it comes to meeting other members. You might get some satisfaction from chatting online if you have an upgrade, but there's not enough for free members. That said, if you do take the plunge it won't break the bank.
